The Margaret River region will be on show this week as part of the Western Australian leg of filming for the 2019 Masterchef season. The episodes began airing on Network Ten on Sunday night, and will continue until Thursday, taking in locations in Perth, Rottnest Island, the Swan Valley and Margaret River. Filming took place in May with a cooking challenge in the forest at Leeuwin Estate and another challenge at Voyager Estate expected to highlight both the natural beauty and quality local produce in Margaret River. Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said the episodes would coincide with the launch of a campaign aimed at encouraging viewers to visit WA. "Visitors are sure to have an unforgettable holiday experience whether they choose to travel to the stunning Margaret River region to taste fresh local produce, take a look at our world-class Optus Stadium or get up close with a quokka on Rottnest Island – there is something for everyone," he said. "Showing off what our State has to offer is also a great way to pique the public's interest in the expanded Western Australia Gourmet Escape event, which is sure to appeal to food-lovers on the east coast." The campaign will see the State Government and Tourism WA partner with Jetstar to promote affordable airfares, and Helloworld Travel to promote holiday packages to east coast visitors. MasterChef judge and WA enthusiast, George Calombaris will add his star power to the campaign which highlights the Swan Valley, Perth and Margaret River and will run until the end of September. Calombaris raved about the South West during filming, with production taking the judges to iconic locations including Bunker Bay. "You forget how big our country really is," he said. "We show the Sydney Harbour Bridge and these Melbourne laneways and we say 'this is Australia', and it is, but it's so much more than that. This here, standing on the beach or in the forest, this is Australia." The holiday packages will promote the chance to 'Create Your Own Gourmet Escape', including accommodation and experiences. The MasterChef WA episodes are also expected to be broadcast later this year to more than 120 countries, including key markets such as New Zealand, India, Singapore and Malaysia. "This is a real coup for WA that gives invaluable broadcast exposure for our State to a significant number of potential visitors across key east coast and international markets," said Mr Papalia. MasterChef Australia WA Week will air from Sunday July 7 to Thursday July 11 at 7.30pm on Network 10 and the WIN Network, with missed episodes also available to view on 10 Play.
