EastEnders spoilers: Mel is shattered by Hunters death

Mel Owen (Tamzin Outhwaite) has been left utterly devastated by the brutal death of her son Hunter (Charlie Winter) on Eastenders – and is at a complete loss at what to do next.

The usually unshakeable business woman is completely lost after her horrific showdown in the Queen Vic across the wedding week, in which Hunter took the entire Square hostage that ended with armed police shooting him on sight.

Having shot Ben (Max Bowden) and Keanu (Danny Walters), before taking Louise (Tilly Keeper) hostage, it was only going to end in disaster, and when Louise made her escape, armed police seized their moment and took him down.

After cradling her boys body in her arms as he took his last breath, Mel has no idea what to do now – with friend Lisa Fowler (Lucy Benjamin) utterly helpless in her attempts to calm her.

What is she going to do now?

Metro.co.uk revealed earlier this year that Hunters return to the Square after being locked up for the murder of Ray Kelly (Sean Mahon) will mark the beginning of the end of Mels time back in Walford.

The question still remains however, over how she decides to leave.

Could Lisas brief return back in Albert Square be a lifeline for Mel? Or could she do something far more drastic now she has nothing left to lose after her sons death.

On the announcement of her leaving, Tamzin Outhwaite said: When John (Yorke) asked me to return to EastEnders back in 2017, I jumped at the chance to play Mel once more but it was only supposed to be for a year.

That year quickly passed and I agreed to stay on for another, but now the time feels right to once again pursue other challenges.

I will of course miss so many people here at EastEnders, and I will forever have good memories of my time at the show, but I am also excited to experience new roles outside of Walford.

Jon Sen, executive producer added: We are extremely grateful to Tamzin for reviving the character of Mel Owen back in 2017, allowing EastEnders fans the chance to see one of Walfords most popular characters take centre stage once more.
