Billy Mayhew’s life is hanging in the balance in Coronation Street following a fall from a cliff during a Christmas showdown with Peter Barlow – but will he die and can Peter live with himself for his part in the disaster?
Peter’s rage led them both to the edge of a cliff and Billy was left teetering on the edge. An aggressive Peter intimidated Billy to the point that he was praying for his life but he stopped short of sending Billy falling. However, fate had other ideas as during the moments which followed, Billy lost his balance and plunged over the edge.
Peter was thrown into a panic as Billy was rushed to hospital and as Eileen Phelan keeps a vigil by his bedside, she worries that he will not make it through. He does briefly wake up and Eileen wants to know how this happened to him but Billy then arrests and is rushed through to surgery. Could this be the end?
Meanwhile, Peter is overwhelmed with horror at how far things went and viewers saw Ken take control and swear the family to secrecy when questions are asked about Billy’s accident. But Adam is reeling from what he has learned about Susan’s death and in the episode which follows on Boxing Day, Daniel Osbourne finds him unconscious after he mixes alcohol with painkillers.
