Will Smith has found his next role with Netflix after the controversial project, Bright.
Will will star in the true story of a crime syndicate that ruled New York Citys Harlem neighbourhood in the 1970s and 1980s.
The Council will follow the story of seven African-American men who dreamed of a self-sufficient and self-policing African-American city-state, funded by revolutionising the drug game.
The film will focus on the politics of the group, as one protege emerges from the seven and his relationship with The Councils king, Nicky Barnes – played by Will – whom the New York Times called Mr Untouchable.
Barnes worked with the Italian Mafia in the 1970s and specialised in the heroin trade.
He was arrested in 1978 but ultimately turned on the council by becoming a federal informant, and later being placed in the witness protection program.

He died in 2012 although his death was only reported earlier in 2019.
Peter Landesman has written the screenplay; Will worked with Peter in 2015 on sports drama Concussion.
Bright was savagely panned by critics, but it seems the more positive audience reception and huge viewing figures have prompted a sequel.
Netflix confirmed in early 2018 that David Ayer will return to write and direct the sequel, although previous writer Max Landis will not be involved in the project.
