Green light for Wallcliffe roundabout | Main St Redevelopment

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River last week announced that the Margaret River Main Street Redevelopment Project received approval to proceed at the June 26 Council Meeting. According to a statement released by the Shire, the issue of a finance shortfall – discovered after a revised budget was delivered following completion of the Perimeter Road project – would be addressed by splitting the project into three phases. "Stage 2.0' of the Project will include all civil, electrical and landscaping works from the River Precinct through to Fearn Avenue, including the area known as the 'Festival Precinct' and 'Town Square', as well as the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Bussell Highway and Wallcliffe Road. This stage will deliver approximately 75 per cent of the total project and is due to commence in September-October, continuing through to May-June 2020. "The subsequent stages, 'Stage 2.1' and 'Stage 2.2', will be delivered sequentially, when the additional funding necessary to complete the project is secured." Stages 2.1 and 2.2 will include civil, electrical and landscaping works for the remaining section of the Main Street known as the 'Hill Precinct', located south of Fearn Avenue through to the new Wallcliffe roundabout. The Shire said Stages 2.1 and 2.2 would be delivered sequentially, "should additional funding become available." A ground-breaking ceremony is planned for the last week of September, with the Shire planning to work with Main Street Traders and the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce as trading continues in the area during construction.
