Nyngan police urge responsibility ahead of WIN Duck Creek Picnics

Racegoers can expect a heavy police presence around the Bogan Shire over the weekend for the annual Duck Creek Picnic Races. Nyngan Police Sergeant Tony Wood said there would be an increase in highway patrols in Nyngan and on the surrounding highways this Saturday and Sunday. The Central North Police District are warning racegoers to consider the risks of fatigue and the excessive consumption of alcohol. "We would caution drivers, particularly young drivers and p-platers, that many people still test positive for alcohol well after lunch on Sunday," Sergeant Wood said. "If you plan to drive home on Sunday, we strongly suggest to limit your alcohol intake and get plenty of sleep because fatigue is a big killer on country roads. "We don't want to see people drinking until 5am, having two hours sleep, and then driving hundreds of kilometres home." READ MORE: Sergeant Wood said the police, event organisers and Bogan Shire Council have a number of restrictions in place to ensure the event is safe and enjoyable for all who attend. "The organisers along with police and the council, who manage the facility, have a number of restrictions in place. There's to be no glass in the venue as it is a sporting area that's used by the pony club and numerous other events," he said. "The car park has been designated an alcohol-free zone. We want people to enter the venue and enjoy the event rather than sitting in the car and drinking. "There will be numerous police and security guards, and a sniffer dog which will be patrolling the event. "All of that is designed so that people can have a safe and enjoyable event, without people having to worry about people becoming excessively intoxicated." This year live entertainment will be provided after the conclusion of races and food will be available throughout the entire evening. Patrons are being encouraged to camp overnight at the racecourse, and police are warning people not to consider driving if they are in any way impaired. The WIN Duck Creek Picnic Races are on at the Nyngan Showground on Saturday July 6. To beat the cue, get your tickets online for $35 from www.123tix.com.au.
