Weaving for Wellness tour to stop in Nyngan

World renowned Milliner and advocate for mental health, Waltraud Reiner is back in 2019 in her little red Hatmobile. Waltraud and Outback Arts will visit Nyngan on July 3 and 4 to facilitate social cohesion while teaching weaving and wellbeing practices and supporting positive mental health. Weaving is widely used across the globe as a tool for mindfulness and positive psychology. This program will increase awareness of these concepts, teaching participants to use their inherent character strengths, believe in their abilities as well as social and emotional competence. "I am about to start packing the car with two floor looms, a table loom and lots of canvases which will allow us to experiment with many weaving techniques while having a yarn," Waltraud said "There will be paint, threads, frames and mixed media." Outback Arts are encouraging people to start collecting bits and pieces and threads people might like to repurpose. READ ALSO: "Get those textiles out of your draws and give them new life. End up with a wall hanging, a framed worked or a pillow," Waltraud said. There will also be public forums that will help people reframe negative thoughts, discuss adversity and understand how creative experiences can be used to improve self-care. Weaving for Wellness will foster a space for positive relationships, community connections and resilience and a chance to get away from the daily stresses of the drought. This year's tour will see a total of nine, two-day workshops delivered through the communities in the Outback Arts region. The project is made possible by a Tackling Tough Times Together grant, distributed by Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal. Come along to a workshop near you. No experience needed, so there's no excuse to miss out. Key dates: Book online by visiting www.123tix.com.au and simply searching 'Weaving for Wellness' or contact Outback Arts.
