Great race day line up this Anzac Day
Preparations are well underway for the Nyngan Jockey Club's annual Anzac Day races on Thursday, April 25. While the famous Nyngan-owned Lucienne won't make an appearance at the Anzac meeting Nyngan Jockey Club secretary and treasurer Wendy Robb assured racegoers there would be plenty of local nominations. "There will be plenty local trainers like Rodney Robb, Gary Bignell, and Greg O'Neil planning to no doubt nominate if horses are fit and well," Ms Robb said. "Horses will probably come from possibly Dubbo, but definitely Cobar, Parkes, Narromine, and around the district like Gulgong's Brett Thompson." READ ALSO: For the punter there is a six-race program starting at 1.20pm, with the feature 1400 metre Nyngan RSL Anzac Cup, jumping at 4.40pm with $12,000 in prize money up for grabs. For the fashionista there's nearly $1000 worth of prizes with six categories in the fashions on the field. Guests are invited to a free barbecue luncheon under the Toyota tent from 12.30pm, sponsored by Khan's IGA. The punters club will kick off on the first race, $10 a share for a highly entertaining day of punting. There will also be free children's activities available at the races including a jumping castle, merry-go-round and face painting. Mrs Robb said this year the club have started a new initiative 'Ladies own the Dream', where every lady who enters the gate goes in the draw to own a horse for the afternoon. "Every lady that enters the racetrack will receive a ticket, and on that ticket it will have a horse that they get to own for the day, and if that horse wins they are invited to join us in the mounting yard for presentations, photos and will get their own little gift as well," she said. Because horses are limited Mrs Robb said there would be a constellation draw. "So if you don't get a horse you write your name on a ticket and that will go in the barrel and drawn out to also win," Mrs Robb said. Mrs Robb thanked their long list of sponsors and said they couldn't do what they do without them. Tickets for the Anzac meeting are $15 and gates open at 11.30am.
