Amnesty Margaret River will welcome Palestinian writer and Middle East analyst Jafar Ramini for a special presentation with local historian and ABC journalist Bill Bunbury next week. Currently based in London but in town as part of a private visit to Western Australia, Mr Ramini will also take part in a Q&A session following the presentation. The respected writer was in Margaret River last year for the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival, where he participated in a talk about the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. According to an Amnesty Margaret River spokesperson, Mr Ramini was the only Palestinian in the audience and made a powerful and heartfelt plea for his people. "At the end of the talk, many people approached him and thanked him for his intervention. "Because of this warm response from Margaret River people, he has offered to come back this year and give a presentation about the history of Palestine and the current situation in the Middle East." Amnesty Margaret River presents Jafar Ramini at the Margaret River Community Centre Chapel from 5.30pm on Friday April 12 (presentation to begin from 6.30pm). Bookings may be made at the Margaret River Bookshop or at the door on the day. Seats are limited so advance bookings are advised.
