Yallingup surfers have taken their A-game to the prestigious King of the Point competition at Trigg Beach by winning three of the divisions. The long running competition started in the 1980's and a win is highly regarded among the surfing fraternity. This year's event saw some of the best waves in the contest's history with perfect waves and exciting rides going down. Yallingup surfer Emma Cattlin proved she is one of WA's best female surfers by winning her maiden Queen of the Point title. Cattlin used her strong forehand attack to post a combined total of 12.33, leaving her opponents chasing either excellent scores or a combination of scores to knock her off the throne. She took down Scarborough local Madi Ratcliffe, Coral Durant (Carnarvon) and Chloe Weir (Ocean Reef). "I feel really honoured to win this prestigious event," said Cattlin. "The set up, the format, equal prize money, everything about this event has been special and I'll remember this moment for a long time to come." Yallingup surfer Tommy Trigwell used his polished backhand repertoire to claim victory in the hotly Over-40 Lord of the Point. Trigwell left Ian Ainsworth (Yallingup), Luke Hayter (Doubleview) and Mark Clift (Trigg), in second, third and fourth place respectively chasing solid numbers in order to snatch victory. "I have surfed for years and years against guys like Mark (Clift) and to now be introducing my son to the Surfing WA competition scene is really rewarding," said Trigwell. "It has been a great weekend and thanks to everyone involved in making it such a success." Luke Campbell mastered conditions and overcame some of WA's best and most exciting surfers to capture his third King of the Point title with victory over Jake Molloy in a electrifying 25-minute final. It was third time lucky for Campbell, who finished second in the past two King of the Point finals. "I am so stoked right now, words can't describe what this event or this wave means to me," said Campbell. "To have all my family and friends here to support me and cheer me on was incredible." Yallingup surfer Jay Davies powered his way to third place. Another Yallingup surfer Dylan Vernon was too good in the Under 16 Jester of the Point final, taking out the biggest victory of his short but promising career. Surfing with a great mix of flair and style Vernon finished on a two-wave combined total of 12.77 (from a possible 20), to edge out local Jack Mickle and Macklin Flynn from Cowaramup. "It has been a super fun weekend, the waves were really good today," said Vernon. "I'm going to use my prize money to order a new step up for this winter." Forecast: Thursday has a strong 2.6 metre swell and clean SE winds, while Friday looks similar with a 2.3m swell. Saturday drops to 1.8m with SE winds and Sunday picks up to 2m with more SSE winds.
