Race-by-race guide and tips for Goulburn on Saturday

Rail in the 3m position and a Soft 6 rating should provide an even track.

Race 1 MAIDEN SW (1200m):

Competitive field here over the 1200m to start the day. Warwick Farm trained colt 4. Bentley Magic looks primed to breakthrough for his first career win, last start was asked to cover ground three deep from barrier 10 and still hit the line well. He will get a more economical run here just behind the speed and drops back to the 1200m which looks ideal.

Dangers: 3. Noble House is third up and ready to peak, gets an easy lead and if he can get away with some easy sectionals early will be hard to run down.

How to play it: Bentley Magic WIN

Race 2 CLASS 2 HCP (1600m):

Danny Williams trained 3. Laughing And Crying has been very consistent this preparation including a win and placing twice, Nick Heywood will get back to last in the field off a fast early pace and be finishing hard down the outside.

Dangers: 2.Xaarfoxylady drops back from BM58 grade to a Class Two, if she can reproduce one of her first three runs this preparation she will be hard to run down in the straight.

How to play it: Laughing and Crying WIN

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1600m):

Locally trained 5. Trump Me is on the seven-day back up for Danny Williams after getting along way back over 1300m at Canberra, where she made up a heap of ground in the straight to finish within two lengths of the winner. The step up to 1600m will suit and should get a nice run throughout.

Dangers: John OShea trained 2. Shen Gui has run well at all three career starts and is bursting to break through for a win. Ran well at Newcastle last start after a short break and will strip much fitter into this.

How to play it: Trump Me WIN and Quinella 2 & 5

Race 4 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

5. Bridyn May looks perfectly placed here, the mare been very consistent this preparation recording three placing from five starts. Nick Heywood should be able to cross easily from barrier 10 and take up the running in a race that lacks early pace.

Dangers: Warwick Farm trained 3. Prahaar won well second up this preparation before putting in two inconclusive runs when tested at midweek metropolitan level, with the drop in grade and nice run from barrier she should return to form here.

How to play it: Bridyn May WIN

Race 5 BM66 HCP (2300m):

Very competitive race with many chances and tactics will play a major part in the outcome with many runners wanting to push forward. 7. Dress Rehearsal got too far out of its ground last start at Kembla Grange over 2300m in a slowly run race but still was able to make up many lengths in the straight to almost pinch it on the line. Corey Brown will settle the mare at the rear of the field and with the predicted fast early pace will allow her to get into the race late.

Dangers: 1. Jagger is ultra-fit and drops back from two runs at midweek metropolitan level here. The gelding will roll forward from barrier 10 to sit outside or behind the speed and enjoys the Goulburn track recording a win and placing at three runs. 4. Bocain was very good over 2500m at Wagga sitting midfield and was strong on the line and a repeat of that performance will be enough to be in the finish.

How to play it: Dress Rehearsal EACH WAY

Race 6 F&M BM74 (1300m):

Another even contest with not much between the first three in the market. 7. With Purpose was very impressive last start at the track over 1300m, she missed the start and had to sit three deep for most of the trip but still kicked clear for an easy five length win. This is a step up in grade but can measure up to them.

Dangers: 5. Ons Vier dropped back to the 1200m at Canberra last start and was totally dominant sitting towards the rear of the field and recorded some quick late sectionals to finish over the top of them. Expecting 4. Maid Marilyn to improve sharply here for trainer Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, placed first up at Gosford, has a good second up record and makes her own luck leading.

How to play it: With Purpose WIN

Race 7 OPEN HCP GOULBURN CUP (1600m)

The Goulburn Cup looks a very open race with many having the required form to take out this year's edition. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained 1. Fabrizio has improved with every run this preparation and looks to peak here third up from a spell, gets a very easy lead with a lack of on pace runners, she will run them along and make the field chase.

Dangers: 2. Interlocuter is a talented gelding for the Godolphin stable and looks to improve sharply stepping up to the 1600m after closing off nicely over 1400m at Hawkesbury last start, he has won or placed at all three starts at the distance and is two wins from four starts second up.

How to play it: Fabrizio WIN

Race 8 E&G BM66 HCP (1200m)

The lightly raced 5. Chewbacca is a talented sprinter who resumed at Rosehill with a slow start costing him the race, if he can jump with them here he will be hard to beat. From barrier three he should be able to stalk the speed and finish hard over the 1200m.

Dangers: 2. Playard the only real danger here to Chewbacca, returned to form last start at Hawkesbury over 1100m and will be saved for one last shot at them late.

How to play it : Chewbacca WIN
