Horse & Pony Club celebrate Australian milestone

It was a day for celebrations at the Margaret River Horse and Pony Club on Sunday as members gathered to recognise 80 years of Pony Clubs in Australia. Pony Club Chief Coach Regan Weightman said both current and past club members gathered at the club grounds to reminisce and enjoy the day. "It was a lovely day, and it was great to see the current pony club riders chatting to past club riders – some of whom had been members for 45 years," Ms Weightman said. A regular club rally was held on the day, with jumping activities where some of the group jumped 1.05 metres. After lunch the group set out on a trail ride with Weightman and fellow coach Emily Res leading the way. "The group had a great time jumping logs and enjoying the nature trail. "The club wishes to thank Wendy Naylor for the birthday cake and all the pony club parents that provided lunch." Ms Weightman said the club allowed young people to experience horseriding from an early age. "The aim of Pony Club is to encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all approved kinds of sport connected with horses and riding," she said. "We provide instruction in riding and horsemastership, and instil in members the proper care of their animals. "We also promote the highest ideals of fellowship, citizenship and loyalty, and encourage our members to cultivate strength of character and self-discipline as part of their Pony Club experience." The Pony Club is open to riders up to 25 years old, with Junior members being aged up to 17 and Associate members aged 17 – 25. The Margaret River branch has a very active Adult Riders Club which meets every Tuesday. Anyone with membership interest is urged to email [email protected] or visit www.margaretriverponyclub.com.au or www.facebook.com/MargaretRiverHorseandPonyClub for more information.
