If youre a K-Pop fan and you want to broaden your repertoire beyond BTS (though BTS is bae, we know) the next group on your list should be TWICE.

The nine-member girl band has been making waves since their debut in 2016 and theyre turning into a worldwide sensation, with many calling them the Top-trend Girl Group.

After releasing their new mini album Yes or Yes, they took number one on the iTunes albums charts of 17 different countries including Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The group has nine members – a throwback to large K-Pop groups like SNSD and Super Junior- and is made up of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu.

So, why are the girls so popular?

The group, whose fandom is known as Once, refer to themselves as One in a Million and are a force to be reckoned with, consistently praised for their singing and dancing abilities, and their eclectic aesthetic.

Formed through a reality show called Sixteen (which is kind of like South Koreas version of Making the Band), people also love them because of how diverse they are – theyre not all Korean. Momo and Sana are Japanese, and Mina, who is also Japanese, was actually born in Texas. The groups maknae, Tzuyu, is Taiwanese.

Its all about the music, too. Not only do their songs consistently rank high on charts in South Korea and abroad, theyre super catchy.

In fact, theyre so popular even Big Bangs G-Dragon is a fan, and he apparently asked for an autographed TWICE album.

The band won big at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards (MGAs) in Incheons Namdong Gymnasium on Monday. They won a massive three awards, including the best-selling artist of the year grand prize, best female group and best global performance, hot on the heels of BTS, who went home with five awards. They beat out the likes of BLACKPINK, Momoland and Red Velvet.

TWICE, who are signed with JYP Entertainment, burst onto the K-Pop scene back in 2015 and have released two studio albums, Twicetagram (2017) and BDZ (2018). They made their comeback this year with a mini EP, Yes or Yes, and its already breaking records.

The music video, which dropped on 6 November became the fastest K-Pop girl group MV to hit 20 million views, doing it in just 10 hours and 27 minutes.

The previous record was held by BLACKPINKs catchy DDU-DU DDU-DU, who got it in under 14 hours.

This isnt the only record theyve smashed – they broke BLACKPINKs record for the fastest K-Pop girl group to reach 10 million views, in just six hours and two minutes.

What are you waiting for? Go forth and binge.
