Mr Brightside by The Killers just notched up a significant achievement – its 200th week in the charts.

Surprised? We’re not!

It is one of the most iconic tunes of today’s generation, and has been in the charts ever since its release way back in 2004.

The Killers truly smashed it with this record and it looks like it isn’t going to fade out any times soon.

But why do we love this song so much?

No one cared about the hit when it was first released in 2003, however on its re-release fans seemed to go wild and it has been in the Top 100 ever since.

The tune is about a fierce and passionate relationship full of paranoia and jealousy – or in some cases a same sex romance that results in murder.

This January, it reached number 49 in the Top 100; its highest position in three years, and nobody knows why!

Last year it was revealed that the indie club night closer was the most streamed track from any song released before 2010 – that is some going.

And between March 2017 and March 2018 it was streamed 45 million times, and just this year alone had got an average 878,000 plays a week across all major streaming services.

We are in awe.

It is pretty much the staple tune to every party, the soundtrack to a number of lives – but for a song that was released 13 years ago, it is truly amazing that it is being downloaded 696 time a week.

Other songs that come close – but not quite close – to Mr Brightside is Snow Patrol’s Chasing Cars, which spent 166 weeks in the Top 100, and this is followed by Frank Sinatra’s My Way that featured in 133 weeks.

We will be slightly gutted if it ever drops from the top 100, but as for now, it looks to be doing just fine.
