Eminem has long had gunshot sounds in his songs, however his latest gig has caused controversy for that very reason.

The rapper was performing a set at Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee on Saturday night, when his song Kill You, from his 2000 album, The Marshall Mathers LP, used gunshot sounds.

At the end, one loud bang can clearly be heard in footage uploaded by a fan at the concert.

As the shot rings out, you can hear screams, while whoever is holding the camera quickly ducks down.

The sounds, for some, seemed a little too realistic, as traumatised fans took to social media after the gig to voice their anger.

Social media star Andrea Russett tweeted: I hate to be the one to say it, but being someone who suffers from very mild PTSD, it was EXTREMELY irresponsible and distasteful to end songs w the shot gun sound effect.

I have grown up loving eminem and his music but i was extremely triggered to the point of tears.

It comes after the deadly mass shooting at last years Route 91 country music festival in Las Vegas.

To hear a gun shot sound effect and see the entire crowd drop to the floor out of instinct is not funny, cute, or amusing. this is the sad reality that we are living, Andrea continued. This is not funny or even something to be joked about.

Kill You has often used the sound in its performance, however another user said: Doesnt matter if eminem has had gun shot effects in the past, the crowd was actually scared and shaken up because of how actually realistic it is.

Shortly before Bon Ivers set, Eminem was using fake gun shots throughout the show. After the first shot, no one knew what was going on. Although I quickly realized it was part of his set, there were Parkland students at the festival. I cant imagine what they felt.

Eminem is yet to comment, however, many Slim Shady fans stood up for the legendary rapper as they rebutted the sounds have long been a part of his set, while hes long lobbied for gun control in the US.

One said: Are yall really that mad at eminem over a song from 2002 that has a gun sound effect.

Its so funny how everyone is getting bent out of shape over Eminem using gun shot sound effects during his set… have you ever even been to a rap concert or listened to pre 2005 Eminem?

Another added: … I 100% understand the effect it could have had on many In the audience, and I do believe we need to put a stop to gun violence.
