JEDDAH: Jeddawis are famous for observing the holy month of Ramadan in a different way. The celebrations associated with this month make the city of Jeddah stand out among other cities of the Kingdom.
This year, however, Ramadan is even busier in Jeddah with a spate of fun-filled events and expos.
Almost every night, a variety of events are planned in different parts of the city. Some of these events are purely based on entertainment and some are designed to help the Kingdom diversify its economy.
One such event was the seventh Khalijiat Expo that concluded on Saturday at Jeddah Hilton. The three-day event was held under the patronage of Princess Ohuod bint Nasser bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The expo was held under the theme “Gulf Designers Federation…leadership and sustainability.” About 100 designers from across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) took part in the event, which included a large number of booths showcasing the latest fashions and designs from dresses to jewelry, chocolate and perfumes.
Fashion and accessories sector is promising and important as Saudi Arabia ranks first in the GCC in the volume of imports of clothing and accessories.
The exhibition simulated the reality of the Kingdom and Vision 2030 in promoting trade exchange among the GCC.
Abdulrahman Al-Mansour, head of the media center of the exhibition, told Arab News: “Today, the biggest challenge facing this sector is the absence of complementary industries that support designers and fashion specialists.”
Al-Mansour said: “Through the exhibition, we call on governments and investors to support the complementary industries for this sector because almost 100 percent complementary industries are imported from China, Japan and other countries“
There are also many pioneering experiences in this field of entrepreneurs to try to localize this industry.
Al-Mansour said: “We want to acquire these industries for the GCC countries as well as the fashion and jewelry sector for Gulf women have their own products and trade names starting within the market.”
Abeer Aref, the chairman of the organizing committee of the exhibition, told Arab News: “What makes this expo so special is that it gathers fashion designers from all over the GCC countries which boosts visitors to come.”
Many productive Saudi families also took part in the expo.
