Ever heard of the British girl band Little Mix, who were put together on the UK show The X Factor in 2011?

If the answer to that question is ‘yes’, then getting to grips with who American girl band Fifth Harmony are should be easy.

Like Little Mix, the band were formed on The X Factor – the US version. They are similar in plenty of other ways, but unlike Little Mix, Fifth Harmony began with five members.

Now in 2018, the group are not only depleted to the tune of one member, but they announced on 19 March 2018 that they are splitting, or at least going on ‘indefinite hiatus’.

But what are the band’s biggest hits? Who are the current members? And why did Camilla Cabello leave in December 2016?

Fifth Harmony were put together in 2012 on the American X Factor when they individually failed to progress in their respective categories.

They went on to wow the judges, including Simon Cowell, and finished third in the competition.

Their major hits are Work From Home, Down and Worth It. Outside of their music, they’re known for their provocative image, involving racy videos and outfits.

After four years Camila Cabello decided to leave the band, with their final performance airing on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in America.

Camilla’s departure was announced on 18 December 2016. The group claimed at the time that Camilla had failed to tell them why she was leaving, while Cam hit back that they announced her exit without telling her.

Fifth Harmony carried on without her, and went on to release their third studio album Fifth Harmony, in 2017. Meanwhile Camilla, 21, has kicked off her solo career with some success, particularly with hit track Havana.

Now the other four girls will ‘pursue sole endeavours’ themselves. But just who are they all?

Dinah Jane

Californian singer Dinah Jane, the tallest in the band, has always been ambitious. She appeared on a track by Daddy Yankee and French Montana called Boom Boom, and auditioned for the lead voice role in Disney film Moana too.

Aged 20, she is of Polynesian descent (mainly Tongan) and released a Christmas medley with Leona Lewis as well as being named one of the most promising entertainers set to change Asian and Pacific history by Fuse.

Normani

Born Normani Kordei Hamilton, but now just calling herself Normani, this 21-year-old Georgia-born singer was raised in New Orleans and moved to Texas following Hurricane Katrina.

She appeared last year on the US version of Strictly, then signed a publishing deal as a songwriter and even released a song collaboration called Love Lies with Khalid for the soundtrack to the movie Love, Simon. She’s got her eye on solo mega-stardom, for sure.

Ally Brooke

Ally Brooke, who is the shortest of the band by quite a margin, has also collaborated with various artists on track releases, and will have a role in series two of US TV show Famous In Love this year.

The 24-year-old is from San Antonio in Texas but is of Mexican descent, and she performed a medley of movie hits at an Oscars red carpet pre-show in February 2018.

Lauren Jauregui

Born in Miami, Florida, 21-year-old Lauren is of Cuban descent, vegan and bisexual, as well as being pretty vocal about her political beliefs, calling Trump’s Muslim ban ‘disrespectful to humanity’.

She has featured on many tracks, most notably Strangers by bisexual singer Halsey, which has LGBTQ+ themes. Lauren won Celebrity Of The Year at the 2017 British LGBT Awards as well.
