Our favourite crooner Frank Ocean broke hearts at the end of last year with gig cancellations and new music teases. But now he’s making up for it with a soulful ode to love in the form of a Moon River cover.

Frank, 30, has been quiet of late, but surprised everyone when he popped up on Wednesday – just a day after Valentine’s Day – with a cover of Moon River.

Tackling the track in stark, stripped back swagger, he lays down minimal synth lines and spare arrangements and multi layered vocals.

The track was originally performed by Audrey Hepburn in the classic 1961 film and earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Frank’s previous offering was his album Blonde in 2016.

He said of the record: ‘I wanted to feel like I won before the record came out, and I did, and so it took a lot pressure off of me about how the record even would perform after the fact.

‘Once the goal is met, everything else is lagniappe. It’s not essential for me to have a big debut week, it’s not essential for me to have big radio records,’ he said.

Plus, at the time, the Novacane singer teased that he could be moving away from music to try something new that he is a ‘novice’ at. He said previously: ‘I believe that I am one of the best in the world at what I do, and that’s all I ever wanted to be.

‘It’s more interesting for me to figure out how to be superior in areas where I’m naive, where I am a novice.’

We miss you Frank. We really, really do…
