Who is Casualty guest star Ruth Madoc aka Millie and where have we seen her before?
A very familiar face turns up as a patient in tonights Casualty. Ruth Madoc plays Millie, who is involved in a big storyline for Mason as he continues to struggle with fitting in to life in the ED. Millies cheerful and kind personality brings out a side of Mason that we havent seen much up till now – but many viewers will be wondering where theyve seen the actress who plays her. Others will instantly spot that shes sitcom legend Ruth Madoc, AKA Gladys Pugh from the long-running comedy Hi-de-Hi!
Hi-de-Hi! ran from 1980 to 1988 and was set in a holiday camp called Maplins around 1960. Written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft (of Dads Army fame), it attracted massive audiences and won a Best Comedy Series BAFTA. The series was recently re-run on UKTVs Drama Channel.

Ruth Madocs character Gladys Pugh was the Chief Yellowcoat and the voice who announced the iconic catchphrase Hi-de-Hi, campers! Several of the plot-lines revolved around her amorous pursuit of Entertainment Manager Jeffrey Fairbrother (played by Simon Cadell) and her rivalry with the other female Yellowcoats, especially Sylvia Garnsey (Nikki Kelly). As well as Hi-de-Hi! you might well have seen Ruth in Little Britain, where she played the mother of Daffyd the only gay in the village Thomas (Matt Lucas). Ruth is no stranger to Holby ED either, having previously appeared in Casualty in 2016 as a character called Bev Whipsnade-Partridge.
