Leavers security guard charged with assault

South West police have condemned the actions of three security guards allegedly involved in an assault overnight. Acting inspector Jon Munday said the guards behaviour would be thoroughly investigated. “The 22-year-old, from Secret Harbour, was charged with assault on a public officer and will appear in the Busselton Magistrates Court at a later date,” he said. “The polices attention was drawn to them because they were behaving quite erratically. They were behaving in a way to make people believe they were under the influence of illicit substances. “Leavers is an event managed by WA police but is operated in conjunction with numerous organisations. Part of those is the security contract for the event and the Zone.” Acting Inspector Munday said it was disappointing to see the guards behave in such a manner. “Its not acceptable that people tasked with protecting others are involved in illicit drug taking,” he said. “Theres no indication at this point in time that those guards were involved in supplying drugs to anybody. “However, it is extremely concerning that they were under the influence of drugs at the time." Acting Inspector Munday said police would be examining each guards suitability to hold a security licence. He said they were not able to reveal details about the security company that had employed the men.
