I cheated on my husband: Lily Allens struggle with fame saw the singer lose her life and her identity
She was famously viewed as the ladette poster girl at a time when rock n roll shenanigans were at the height of a resurgence.
But, Lily Allen has revealed that her meteoric rise to the very pinnacle of pop stardom in the noughties and her subsequent return to the spotlight in the 2012 left her feeling lost and very alone.
The 33-year-old Not Fair hitmaker has blamed the spotlight and its effects during her Sheezus era for the breakdown of her identity and her home life.
I lost my sense of self. I lost my identity. I was being a bad mum. I was being bad at my job. Id wake up on a tour bus in the middle of Wisconsin and be so hung-over. I cheated on my husband. All I wanted to do was be with my kids. I wasnt even making any money, she admitted during a chat with Vulture.
Speaking specifically about her return to singing following a break to concentrate on raising her young children, she candidly explained that lost control of her image and inadvertently ended up feeling like she was Alice in Wonderland.

I was 14 stone and I had to lose all that weight. I wasnt eating, I wasnt sleeping, she said. Id always been in control of my image, but Id been a mum in slippers and a dressing gown for two years. I hired a team to dress me up with slick hair, nails, makeup; all harsh and pop star-y. I felt like I was in Alice in Wonderland.
