Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine could enter witness protection after testifying against former fellow gang members of the Nine Trey Bloods.

He had his first day in the US federal court on 18 September, where he turned on other members of the gang as part of a plea deal he has struck in order to cut down his own jail sentence.

Yet the rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, will have likely implicated himself in this process, since these other members of the Nine Trey Bloods were probably in the courtroom while he testified.

So, according to the New York Times, it is pretty likely he will have to enter witness protection because of how well known he is.

The 23-year-old, of Pueto Rican and Mexican descent, was arrested in November 2018 along with other gang members.

He was facing at minimum 47 years and at maximum life imprisonment after being charged with nine federal counts.

Yet Hernandez has testified that he has been working with the feds since one day after he was arrested.

According to TMZ he spent two hours on the stand and, at one point, even identified two Nine Trey Bloods gang members – Aljermiah Nuke Mack and Anthony Harv Ellison – by pointing at them.

Hernandez testified that shooting the video for his hit song Gummo in August 2017 introduced him to many of the gang members.

He also testified that he never had to go through any kind of initiation to the gang or shoot anyone – his role was to keep making successful music to bankroll its activities.

Jay Kramer, former FBI official told the New York Times: Despite how connected we are, and the appetite for social media content in this country, there are places where, if this kid gets a haircut and wears normal clothes, no one would know or care who he is.
