Freddie Mercury would have turned 73 today, and his Queen bandmate Brian May has reminded us all just why the late frontman is so iconic.

Taking to Instagram, the infamous guitarist marked the singers birthday by sharing a rare 1985 clip of the star talking about his studio album, Mr Bad Guy.

While discussing the tunes on the record, the Radio Ga Ga hitmaker was interrupted when the bands drummer, Roger Taylor, made a crashing sound in the background.

Laughing off the awkward moment, the interviewer asks Freddie if he realised he was that explosive, as he shouts: Roger, what did you do?

Taking a drag on his cigarette, the icon smirks: I can make a bigger bang than that, darling.

Fans were quick to comment on the post where they wished the legend a happy birthday, while Adam Lambert (who keeps Freddies spirit alive by touring with Queen) shared his own tribute.

Both the star and band appear to have had a revival since the Oscar winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 2018.

Starring Rami Malek, 38, the movie takes us through Freddies colourful career, which was cut short when he tragically died from AIDs aged 45, in 1991.

And while he was already idolised before the films release, it seems BoRap has only sparked more love for Freddie throughout all generations.

One celeb who adored the singer was Elton John, who shared his grief in his book Love is the Cure: On Life, Loss and the End of AIDS.

Freddie told me he had AIDS soon after he was diagnosed in 1987. I was devastated, the Your Song hitmaker wrote.

I had seen what the disease had done to so many of my other friends. I knew exactly what it was going to do to Freddie. As did he.

He knew death, agonising death, was coming. But Freddie was incredibly courageous.

The Rocketman added: He kept up appearances, he kept performing with Queen, and he kept being the funny, outrageous and profoundly generous person he had always been.

Robert Plant too was a fan of the Freddie he knew, sharing: He was a sweet guy, great voice, while Deaf Leopard have previously called the star god-like.
