Mirfin safari rolls in on wave of success

Enjoying his best season so far, Bathurst trainer Dean Mirfin will try to bring down several bigger metropolitan stables with a two-pronged sprint attack in one of today's feature races at Hawkesbury.

Heading the charge in a very competitive benchmark 64 over 1000m is four-year-old mare Jetgirl, who boasts a 36 per cent winning strike rate from just 17 starts and looks well over the odds from the good draw with form apprentice Chris Williams claiming 3kg.

Jetgirl was only run down late in a similar race at this track two starts back before hitting the line nicely in a benchmark 86 at Dubbo.

Mirfin also resumes six-year-old gelding I Am Magnificent, who finished his last preparation with a class 2 win at home and a close-up third placing in the feature Town Plate at Wellington.

But Mirfin's team will have to find their best form to beat smart filly Silver Melody from the Kris Lees stable in Newcastle, flying gelding Manly Cove from the Bjorn Baker yard at Warwick Farm and, at bigger odds, Randwick-based filly Hill Of Grange for the Hayes-Hayes-Dabernig stable.
