Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle was pretty confusing to get our heads around, considering Dwayne Johnson was playing a high school nerd and Jack Black was playing a teenage girl.

But its sequel, The Next Level, is, well… next level.

The trailer for the sequel has dropped and this time, Dwayne The Rock Johnson is actually Danny DeVito.

Ah, the magic of cinema.

Unbeknownst to his new group of friends, Spencer (Alex Wolff) kept pieces of the smashed Jumanji cartridge and worked to restore the system in the basement of his grandads house.

Unfortunately, Spencer gets sucked into the game, leading to Martha (Morgan Turner) and Fridge (SerDarius Blain) entering the game again to rescue him.

And theyre not alone – as Spencers grandad Eddie (DeVito) and his friend Milo (Danny Glover) also get sucked in and are landed with the avatars of Smolder Bravestone (Johnson) and Franklin Mouse Finbar (Kevin Hart).

With Martha keeping her avatar of Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), Fridge is furious to discover hes now the old fat dude Professor Sheldon Shelly Oberon (Jack Black).

The group set off to rescue Spencer – all while dealing with the confusion of Eddie and Milo, who fluctuate between admiring their new bodies and thinking theyre dead.

More: Dwayne Johnson

Nick Jonas returns as Seaplane, with Colin Hanks returning as Alex Vreeke and Rhys Darby back as in-game guide Nigel Billingsley.

Oceans Eight actress Awkwafina has also joined the cast in an unknown role, while Madison Iseman returns as Bethany – although gets no Jumanji avatar this time round.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle was a surprise hit in 2017, receiving positive reviews and grossing over $962 million worldwide – becoming the fifth highest grossing film of the year.

Jumanji: The Next Level is out on 13 December.
