Home and Away spoilers: Marilyn and John decide to have time apart

Ever since Jett (Will McDonald) moved to a new place in the city, John (Shane Withington) has been making constant trips back and forth to get his son set up. But its clear that his absence is putting strain on friends and family back at the Bay – namely, his job at the Surf Club, where Alf (Ray Meagher) is struggling to keep everything afloat, and Marilyn (Emily Symons), who doesnt know where they stand anymore.

When John makes a return to the Bay after one of his many trips, Marilyns relief doesnt last long when she discovers that John has his mind set on being Jetts carer. Confiding in Irene (Lynne McGranger), Marilyn says that she doesnt feel she can leave the Bay, as shes determined to keep up her life here, which includes looking after Raffy (Olivia Deeble).

John and Marilyn have a serious discussion about the Jett situation, and they realise that Marilyn feels she cant abandon Raffy, while John feels the same for Jett. John doesnt know how he can convince Marilyn to move to the city, and Marilyn doesnt see why he gets to be the one who chooses the direction their lives go in.

Neither of them back down, as John feels Marilyn isnt making the effort to understand Jetts daily struggles. When Marilyn suggests that Johns behaviour is to do with him more than Jett, John storms off.

A flustered Marilyn speaks with Alf and Roo (Georgie Parker), and while Alf tells her to trust that Jett is genuinely fine when he says he is, its clear that John has already made up his mind about relocating to the city. Alf confronts John, where he reveals that hes stuck between a rock and a hard place – either he abandons his wife or he abandons his son.

When John walks in on Marilyn telling Jasmine (Sam Frost) how amazing their wedding was, and how it made their family whole, he realises how much he loves Marilyn, and they realise their relationship is still strong when it comes to feelings.
