France is to get three new IMAX theaters after the IMAX Corporation struck a deal with French exhibitor CinéAlpes. The move will see screens erected in the cities of Tours, Quetigny and Aubière in central France. The move will mean that France has 24 IMAX theaters with 17 currently open and seven set to open. “CinéAlpes shares our passion for delivering premium entertainment experiences as evidenced by their commitment to our IMAX with Laser experience. We are delighted to welcome them as our newest partner in France and together look forward to introducing IMAX to new cities in the country – particularly in Central France,” said IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond. “More and more moviegoers in France are choosing IMAX as their preferred way to experience blockbusters, where in the last year alone we have increased our box office in the market by 85%. We continue to build on this success with the recent opening weekend performance of Avengers: Infinity War, which generated $1 million from just 12 IMAX theatres, representing our second-highest opening weekend to date in France.”

The Zurich Film Festival is the latest film festival to launch a television award with the launch of a new competition. The Swiss festival is launching the ZFF Series, which will present between six and eight television dramas that have at least four episodes. A jury will award the “Golden Eye” for best international TV seres with a CHF10,000 (US$10,000) cash prize. It comes four years after it launched ZFF TVision, which included shows such as HBOs True Detective and Amazon Prime Videos Hand of God. “It is no longer surprising that such Hollywood greats as David Fincher, David Lynch, Andrea Arnold and Jane Campion, as well a whole host of character actors and actresses, are getting in on this once-shunned act,” said the festival.

Sierra/Affinity is launching sales on action thriller Red Snake in Cannes. The sale agent has boarded the film, written and directed by Caroline Fourest. It stars an all-female cast including Dilan Gwyn (Dracula Untold) and Call Me By Your Name stars Amira Casar and Esther Garrel and tells the story of Zara, a young Yazidi woman who is kidnapped and held captive by a ruthless commander. When she finally escapes, she joins a powerful group of female warriors determined to fight back against ISIS. It is produced by Samuel Hadida via his Davis Films label, Leo Maidenberg and Jad Ben Ammar and co-produced by Metropolitan Film, France 2 Cinema and Eagle Pictures Italy. The film is currently in filming in Morocco.
