More help for hardworking Wallcliffe volunteers

Wallcliffe Volunteer Brigade received a well timed donation this week from the team at Better Choice Fuels. Eighty bomber jackets were delivered to the brigade's headquarters, and will keep the group's busy volunteers warm over the cold winter months. Valued at $5000, this is second donation from Better Choice in recent years to benefit the local volunteer brigades. The jackets were presented by Jordan Serve on behalf of Better Choice and he expressed the gratitude of the Perth based business owner for the efforts of all the local brigades on behalf the local Margaret River community. Wallcliffe Brigade President Robert Barnett accepted the jackets and commented "It's fabulous to see a local business giving back to the members of the community that support them. "These guys are only relatively new to town and already they have made two significant donations that have really helped both Margaret River and Wallcliffe Volunteer Brigades." Wallcliffe Brigade is one of the larger volunteer brigades in the regional WA with over 70 active members servicing the area of Prevelly, Gnarabup, Wilderness, Burnside, Kilcarnup and Rapids. These areas are all considered high risk bushfire areas and the brigade train twice a month to be prepared for the inevitability of bushfires in these areas. Mr Barnett took the opportunity to remind the community to not be complacent in preparing for next bushfire season, saying "now is the time to start cleaning and clearing and preparing burn piles to reduce the fuels around your property. "The winter work you do now will have a big impact on how well prepared you are for next fire season". The Wallcliffe Brigade also recently announced a change of Captains at their recent Annual General Meeting. Mr Barnett stepped down as Captain and took on the new role as Brigade President. David Kelly, who has been with the brigade for 20 years and was previously the Deputy Captain, now takes on the role of Captain. Mr Kelly also remains the Fire Control Officer (FCO) for the Rapids area.
