The news is good for Margaret River music man

Long time local musician, songwriter, and music teacher Mike Goodwin has received a prestigious nomination for the WAM (West Australian Music) 2018-2019 Song of The Year for a song he recorded recently in Perth. With well over 1400 entries, this year has seen a record number of entrants and the well known Margaret River musician said he was thrilled to receive the Country Music category nomination in just his first year of entering the competition. "With the help and expertise of studio manager Elliot Smith, and producer Noah Shilkin, I submitted four songs for the WAM awards, and was delighted and honoured to receive a nomination for the song, I'll Be Gone," he said. "It's been a long time in the making, however I am over the moon to have four songs recorded and released, and to have been nominated for WAM Song of the Year is wonderful recognition," he said. "With the assistance of local and other musicians, including a guitarist from Illinois USA, I'm so proud of the finished product, and can't wait for my music to be heard." Goodwin has been a musician in the Margaret River region for over 20 years, and has taught guitar and music for many of these years. He has played in a variety of bands including Cactus, The Groove-o-matics, the Mike Goodwin Band and MG and The Kicks at venues across the South West. Since starting his guitar and songwriting journey around 30 years ago, Goodwin said it had just been the last 12 months that had seen him take the plunge and record four of his own tunes at Sundown Studios in Perth. He said living and working in the South West had given him many opportunities that he may not have had in the city. "The Margaret River region has an amazing resource of musicians, and it's a fantastic network of talented people." Goodwin now awaits the results of the WAM Awards night, where winners of each category will be announced on Wednesday June 26 in Fremantle.
