New INXS documentary to uncover the secret and mysterious side of late frontman Michael Hutchence

A new documentary on the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence is coming to the BBC.

Sydney-born Hutchence was one of the original members of the long-running rock band, which he fronted up until his death by suicide in November 1997 at the age of 37.

Mystify: Michael Hutchence has been co-produced by the BBC, and promises to deliver an intimate portrait of the musician which will endeavour to uncover [his] secret and mysterious side.

Mystify presents an intimate narrative portrait imbued with authenticity, warmth and humour, a press release states.

Michaels friends, lovers, band-members, family, collaborators – and Hutchence himself – guide viewers through a trajectory from unconventional fractured childhood to charismatic, turbulent and ultimately tragic public stardom.

Written and directed by INXS collaborator Richard Lowenstein, Mystify will include rare archive film and never-before-seen footage filmed by the musician and those closest to him, including his ex-girlfriend Kylie Minogue.

Kylie is one of a number of people who agreed to be interviewed for the documentary, with that list including the likes of Bono, INXS Tim Farriss and Hutchences former partners Helena Christensen and Michele Bennett – both of whom have never spoken publicly about Hutchence until now.

Michael Hutchence was one of the most influential and charismatic rock stars of the modern era, and Im delighted that this moving documentary will air on BBC Two, BBC Musics Head of TV commissioning Jan Younghusband commented on the upcoming film.

Hailed as the quintessential Rock God, Mystify: Michael Hutchence looks set to be a fascinating, moving and essential watch for any music fan.
