Pull out your dancing shoes and wind back the clock
Hermidale will be turning back the clock fifty years, hosting an old time family dance night. After donating to the Hospital Auxiliary, the Nyngan Social Dance Group have decided to host a dance to raise money for the Hermidale Public School. The Social Dance Group is run by Patricia and Clive Cook who teach a variety of old time dances including the Pride of Erin and Canadian three step at the Nyngan RSL on a Monday evening. Members donate $5 each week for the class, which is pooled together and given to clubs and charities in town. Mrs Cook said they have decided to wind back the clock and bring back memories of dances held in times gone by, while raising money for the small school in Hermidale. "We are saying we are turning back the clock fifty years because this is what we all did. Every weekend there was a dance or a ball somewhere in the area and we all travelled to attend," she said. "We danced in Nyngan, Tottenham, Hermidale, Girilambone, Coolabah, Collerina, Nevertire, Nymagee just to mention a few. "We danced to Frank Bourke White Rose Orchestra, Fabulous Four Orchestra, Vic Caine Orchestra, The Happy Wanderers, The All Stars and The Limits." The family dance night will be on April 26 at the Hermidale Hall from 7pm, and Mrs Cook is encouraging everyone to come along for a fun night. "We are hoping everyone will dust off their dance shoes and join in The Pride Of Erin, Canadian Three Step, Gypsy Tap, Barn Dance, Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey to name just a few, and reminisce about great times had at Hermidale," Mrs Cook said. "Even if you are not dancers you are welcome to come along and listen to some great music and enjoy a cuppa and social night out." For more information contact Patricia Cook on 6832 1539.
