The Probus Club of Margaret River turns 25 this year, and President Geoff Woodbridge says he is looking forward to an exciting year for the club. "It would be wonderful for past-Probians to join current members in a celebration later in the year," Mr Woodbridge said. The club provides a relaxed social experience for retired and semi-retired men and women and is affiliated with state, national and international bodies. Probus clubs are sponsored by a Rotary Club and members recently joined local Rotarians on a day-trip to the Talusin lithium mine in Greenbushes. Here they were given an overview of the 130 year history of mining in the area before viewing the 3 kilometre-long pit, which contains the biggest and highest quality lithium deposit in the world. The group then enjoyed lunch at a local pub, and viewed a rehabilitation project providing a wetland for birds and native animals. The local club conducts monthly meetings with a range of interesting guest speakers and also holds morning tea mornings where members can get to know each other better. April's guest speaker is Lyn Serventy, Chair of AMR Community Energy, and in May the well-known Bill Bunbury will talk about his life as a radio presenter and historian. The club meets at the Uniting Church on Tingle Avenue and welcomes all retirees or near-retirees to see .what Probus is all about.
