Erin Phillips stretchered off in AFLW grand final with ACL injury

Adelaide's commanding AFLW grand final win over Carlton came at a heartbreaking cost with superstar Erin Phillips stretchered off Adelaide Oval late in the third quarter with an ACL injury.

Pursuing Nicola Stevens in the Crows' attacking 50 late in the third quarter, Phillips was wrong-footed, causing her left knee to give way.

She told Channel Seven after the final siren that it was an ACL injury, saying the Crows' premiership win was bittersweet but "a dream come true".

"Unfortunately that's just sport," said Phillips, who has come back from an ACL injury in the past, in her other knee. "Myself and Chloe [Scheer, who also went down in the grand final], we'll just get better and hopefully be back next season."

The dual Olympian went immediately to ground in the incident, clutching her knee and writhing in pain before being stretchered off the park.

Tears in her eyes, Phillips waved to the all-time AFLW record 53,034 crowd as she was afforded an emotive, standing ovation from Crows and Blues supporters.

Phillips' heartbreak headlined a shocking swag of injuries during an afternoon of carnage at Adelaide Oval.

Midway through the second quarter Phillips' young teammate Scheer appeared to badly injure her right knee.
