Hawthorn recruit Tom Scully could return to football as early as this week, 12 months since he suffered a season-ending ankle injury when playing for Greater Western Sydney against Collingwood in round two last year.
The Hawks have listed the 27-year-old as a test and will declare him available for selection if he gets through training this week.
The club has not decided whether the wingman will play in the VFL or AFL, holding off on a decision until Thursday or Friday when they will be in a better position to make the call.

Given that Scully has been out of the game for so long, it is more likely he would play for the Box Hill Hawks against Werribee in a VFL practice match at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday rather than against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG on Sunday.

The Hawks did not have to pay a high price for Scully at the trade table last season despite his undeniable talent as they were assuming the risk caused by his ankle injury and the contract he had with the Giants.
However, he was not expected at the time to play early in 2019 with most predicting at the time he was only a rough chance of playing in 2019.
Another big-name recruit, Chad Wingard, who joined the Hawks from Port Adelaide in the trade period, is also making solid progress in his return from a calf injury although his return date remains unspecified.
Its going really well, and it has pulled up really well after the two hits I had last week, Wingard told the club website.
So, this week its back to training with the main group on Tuesday and Thursday again.

Unfortunately former Giant Tim Mohr will be out long-term after dislocating his knee in a practice match with Box Hill Hawks on Sunday.
Meanwhile, four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson told Sevens Talking Footy on Monday night the Hawks would need to be in premiership contention by 2022 for him to continue as their coach beyond his current contract.
