Hawks’ finals hopes alive after 34 point victory | Photos

Augusta-Margaret River remains in contention for the premiership title, following its win over Collie at Gloucester Park. The home side took charge and kicked six unanswered goals in the opening term. After claiming a 32-point half-time lead, the Hawks then slowed to a crawl. The side held on to claim a 8.7 (55) to 3.3 (21) result. The Hawks Colts had a win earlier in the day, trouncing their opponents 16.18 (114) to 3.1 (19). Leading from the first quarter, Augusta Margaret River held onto that lead throughout the game while Collie were restricted to just two first quarter goals until they finally kicked their third in the last term. The Eagles fared better in the Reserves game, holding a slim lead throughout the match to win 3.14 (32) to the Hawks 3.7 (25). Busselton snapped a five game losing streak with a stylish display over ninth-placed South Bunbury on Saturday afternoon. Playing at Hands Oval, the Magpies were slight favourites going into the clash. Tiger Riley Flynn posted the game's first goal, before Busselton's Brian Hinkley levelled the scores a few moments later. Goals to Hinkley and Daniel McGinlay gifted the Magpies with a seven-point quarter time lead. After Magpie Jed Kemp's first of five goals, Joshua Ryder, Guy Piggott, and Ethan Nordahl pulled the Tigers back into the contest. Refusing to lay down, Ethan Bowman (three goals) and Reegan Mrsich (two) put the visitors back in front by half time. South Bunbury floundered in the third term, as Busselton extended its lead to 21 at the final change. Spurred on by the fans, the visitors cruised to a 13.6 (84) to 7.9 (51) victory. Bouncing back after two narrow losses, Eaton retained second on the ladder with a crushing win over bottom-placed Harvey. In front by 10 at quarter time, the Boomers picked up steam before claiming a 26-point lead at the main break. Booting six goals to three in the second half, Eaton stormed home to win 14.19 (103) to 7.14 (56). League leaders Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault destroyed reigning premiers Donnybrook in overcast conditions. Ahead by 22 at quarter time, the Lions rallied to post a stunning eight goals to two in the second term. Booting nine to two in the second half, the side celebrated a 20. 12 (132) to 5.3 (33) win. Bunbury came back to secure a 31-point victory over seventh-placed Carey Park on Sunday afternoon. Trailing by 10 at the first change, the Bulldogs fought to close the gap in the second quarter. Finding its groove, the side notched up five goals to two in the third. The Bulldogs retained fourth spot with a 10.13 (73) to 6.6 (42) win at Payne Park.
