Jenny Connors paranoia has culminated into a life or death situation for poor Liz McDonald in Coronation Street.

Jennys been suffering from paranoia over her husbands friendship with Liz, and its driven her more and more to the bottle. That in itself has caused her to make some stupid decisions – not least to create a profile for Liz on an escort site while drunk, but it also saw her get behind the wheel and mow Liz down.

And now Johnny is left to pick up the pieces in a bid to save his marriage, which is hanging on by a thread, and to save Jennys freedom – telling the police he was behind the wheel.

Its a no brainer for Johnny to step up on both levels as you step up for someone who is in a terrible state, actor Richard Hawley told metro.co.uk. The consequences of her [actions]… because theres drunk driving… would be worse… I dont know. Its a no brainer and it would be for me too, I think. I know its perverting the course of justice but its about love and protection of the people closest to you. She didnt do it deliberately.

Thats true love right there, Johnny risking everything to protect his wife. But basically, Johnny is just a good guy and Jenny has seemingly had it so wrong all along.

Well because hes a hero. I think, Richard told us of his motivations to lie. Well hes got to, thats how he feels because she doesnt stand a chance because theres a lot of drink issues and so on. Just think hes honourable actually. Trying a little bit to think if Id do the same and I would. Yeah I just think he does, because thats what you do. Hes protective.

And no doubt Johnny will feel somewhat responsible, given that Jennys concerns about his relationship with Liz were based on his odd behaviour.

Richard added Johnny does harbour a bit of self-blame given his past.

I think theres an element of that, he said. He takes responsibility for it for sure. Yeah actually because he knows shes in this state because of what he did. But he cant help what he did. Thats gone. Weve all tried to move on from it. But that is why she is like she is. So yeah actually.

As Johnny is arrested for the crash, could he be looking down the barrel of a stint inside? Pictures showed him and Jenny attending court.

Richard said: Johnny wouldnt cope well in prison, not from what he says. Hes not designed for prison. It would be really difficult. Youd sit there with all that stuff in your head. He says he couldnt cope and says he “would do what happened to Aidan”.

But although Johnny understands why Jenny did what she did, the fact remains she thought he was up to no good when he really wasnt. However, Richard thinks Johnny will find it in him to forgive her.

More: Soap spoilers

They are a bit growing stronger through all that, he revealed. If they can just work through this one. I think it was bound to come up. I dont think you can go through those kind of traumas and expect someone to just draw a line and its all nice and clean, shes incredibly human.

And shes been incredibly hurt and her trust. Both of them actually, trust is important and hes broken it. What do you do apart from except start again. Really this is just a healing that will get stronger I hope. Yeah forgive. Understand and forgive. But be amazed, bewildered at the extent of it as well.
