Walter Afanasieff says theres still bad blood

All I Want For Christmas Is You might remind the average person of festive fun times, but for the co-writer of the epic Christmas song things arent quite as jolly.

Walter Afanasieff, who wrote everyones favourite Xmas song alongside Mariah, says that he hasnt spoken to the singer for 20 years after they had a falling out.

The writer, who also penned Hero and Forever with the superstar, told Radio Times: I would have hoped that in 20 years, she would have knocked on my door – but she hasnt, so…

Afanasieff claims that the fall-out began when Mariah split from first husband Tommy Mottola, who was the head of music at Sony Entertainment.

The reason we stopped working together was primarily because she and her husband, who was the chairman of Sony Music, got a divorce. And I was under an exclusive contract with him. So, she left the building, she wasnt even on the label anymore, but I couldnt go and work with her because he wouldnt let me.

So she found that to be a little bit of a slap in the face.

He also hinted that the Heartbreaker legend was jealous that he had been working with other female singers such as Celine Dion.

Ouch.

As if that wasnt harsh enough, Afanasieff, who has won two Grammy Awards for his work, claimed that Mariah doesnt like to mention other people.

It doesnt matter how many interviews shes done or when shes on stage, shell never ever say “heres the song that I wrote with Walter,” he said. Shes made it her modus operandi [to neglect to mention his name when discussing the song].

We wrote the song together, my name is 50%, her name is 50%, we have equal shares.

Is now the time to make a joke about the I dont know her gif? No? Okay…
