The Bushchoox started the week in top spot having been undefeated in the first four rounds and Madness were one win behind but with a better percentage. So today's winner would move to the top of the ladder. Pauly B the Mad Men's skipper won the toss and elected to bat first against Sebby's Choox. With just 29 runs added for the loss of 5 wickets from the final 30 balls the Madness line up had put together a total of 8/175 from their 20 overs. Reece O the most economical of the Choox with 1/9 from his 2 overs. Muzza took 2/14, created a run out and took a catch to take his wicket involvements to 16 for the season. The boys from Fowl House Corner took to the crease needing 8.76 runs per over to hold onto top spot. Muzza belted two 4s from the first two balls of the innings to get things underway. With 1/47 after the 5 over power play things were on track. Muzza was back in the huddle retired in just 12 balls for 25 runs but then the Mad Men slowed things down. The outfielding was sharp and the bowling was tight. Just 25 runs for the loss of 2 wickets came in the second term and 3/72 was well behind the required run rate at half time. The third quarter was better with 45 runs added as captain Sebby made 20 from 15 balls and big hitting Scooter just arriving at the crease. Needing 59 from the final 30 balls, Scooter retired with 26 from 15 balls to give his team a chance. Smithy having his first proper bat of the season having only face one ball last week started to push the run rate in the right direct before he was caught by Beno off Bezza's bowling for 21 off 13 balls. Bezza ended up with 2/9 from his 2 overs and Morrow also picked up two wickets for 15. Pommy Pete was tidy with 0/9. Madness kept the total down to 7/160 winning by 15 runs and moved back to the top of the table. On Tuesday afternoon Sons of Pitches met up with the Master Batters. SOP batted first with a slow and steady approach were 1/34 at quarter time. Speed car Alex made a return to the line-up with a dozen runs but then a mini collapse in the top order saw the total be 4/66 at half time. The third term pushed the run rate along a bit with Jacob Walker like a rock at the top of the order retiring on 25 from 35 balls and young gun Ado Bailey retiring on 27 from 15 balls which finishing with a flurry of 6,4,4… At 3/4 time SOP had 5/109 on the board and in need of a big final term. It was not to be as they lost their way losing 4 wickets for just 28 runs. SOP ended up with 9 wickets down for 137 runs at a run rate of 6.85. Old Fish took the remarkable figures of 3/6 for MB whilst young fish took two great outfield catches. Joycey also had great bowling figures from his two overs with 1/4. Blind Man Joel and Old Mate Currell both took 2 wickets each. The Master Batters flew out of the gates with 0/47 on the scoreboard by 1/4 time with Jarvo retired on 25 from 18 and Joycey on his way to 27 retired in 16 balls. Another 52 runs were added in the second quarter as Barnesy made 25 at 131 strike rate without a boundary. Blind Man made 22 before a self imposed retirement at 22 from 18 balls. The half time total was 0/99 and MB were needing just 38 runs from the final 60 balls with all 10 wickets still in place. The third term saw 39 runs added and SOP finally took a wicket in the 15th over when Old Fish was run out by Jacob. The 3/4 time total was 1/138 and the run rate was 9.20. The winning runs came from the final ball of the 15th over. The final quarter belonged to the Young Fish Harvey who made an unbeaten 27 runs from 21 balls. The Master Batters made 41 runs in the final term to win by 42 runs and record their third win of the season leaving them just outside the top 4 on percentage. Shannon 0/13 and Brenno 0/14 the pick of the bowlers for SOP. With 8 drop catches, many misfields that went for 4 and only 1 wicket being taken via a run out much improvement is needed if these guys want to avoid a wooden spoon come the end of the season. On Wednesday the matchup between the Big Show and the Finbats was a washout. Rescheduled for Thursday, the Big Show had to forfeit due to a lack of numbers. Friday night was the perfect afternoon on the Western Oval for the clash between first time back to back winners the Bashers and the reigning premiers in the Willow Warriors. The Bashers went into bat first full of confidence coming off two wins in a row. The power play was a disaster as they only managed 27 runs and lost two vital wickets of regular run makers Sheithy and Tristian. The second term saw 34 runs added for the loss of another two wickets and the half time total was 4/61. Blake who is having a Stella season with the bat and behind the stump retired with 28 runs from 24 balls. The third term was again slow as the Bashers only put on 29 runs to be 5/90 at the 3/4 time change of ends. The final quarter saw a huge collapse with 5 wickets falling for 23 runs, Leigh Westcott the only shining light with 24 runs from 31 balls. In an endeavour for runs the Bashers had 5 runouts on their scorecard. The Bashers final total was 10/ 113 which is way down on their last two outings. Timmy Ashworth in his last game as a Warrior took 1/6 which included a team hat-trick in his final over including 2 runout on his last 2 balls to end the innings. Cam's 1/6, Garsty and Forey 1/7 each the best of the bowlers. The Warriors will need to score at 5.66 rpo to notch up win number 3 for the season. Garsty belted three 6s and a 4 to retire in 9 balls on 25 runs, the seasons fastest so far. Hep retired in 21 balls and the Warriors were well on their way to victory with 2/78 at half time. Then the Bashers took control and only allowed 15 runs to be scored in the third term to have the Warriors 3/93 at 3/4 time. Middsy made the slowest retirement of the last 3 years taking 41 balls to get to 25. Needing just 21 runs to win from the final 30 balls, the Warriors took victory on the 3rd ball of the 18th over and then went on to record an 18 run victory. Indian Garry was the pick of the bowlers with 2/9 from 2 overs and was well supported by Manny who only conceded 6 runs from his allotted 2 overs. Middsy was also tidy with 0/9. The Warriors moved back into the top 4 so after 5 rounds, we have the same final four as last seasons finals series. – Mike Newman
