New York Film Critics Online: Roma Named Best Picture, Alfonso Cuaron Takes Best Director

The New York Film Critics Online posted their winners Sunday with Roma taking Best Picture and Alfonso Cuaron winning Best Director.

Can You Ever Forgive Me?, which follows the story of author and literary forger Lee Israel, was also a big winner with the online critics group with Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant winning Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively. The Best Actor honor went to Ethan Hawke for First Reformed and Regina King continues her streak with a Best Supporting Actress win for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk. The Favourite also took home the Best Ensemble honor. Elsie Fisher, star of the coming-of-age indie Eighth Grade, was honored for Breakthrough Performer while director Bo Burnham was recognized with Best Debut as Director.

This marks the second Best Picture win for Roma, which was honored earlier today by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The west coast critics group also awarded Regina King with Best Supporting Actress. The honors add kindle to their fire that will possibly blaze a trail for an Oscar win in February.
