It seems it really is the end of the road for Johnny Depp and Pirates of the Caribbean.

After rumours that the Hollywood star had been ousted from his role as Jack Sparrow in the long-running movie franchise, a Disney executive appears to have confirmed the news that Johnny will no longer appear in the blockbuster.

Disneys film production chief, Sean Bailey, addressed whether Pirates can survive without Johnny, who has played the iconic character since the first installment back in 2003.

Sean told The Hollywood Reporter: We want to bring in a new energy and vitality.

I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And thats what Ive tasked them with.

Sean also confirmed that Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were working hard to bring this new chapter of Pirates and the Caribbean to life.

The Disney exec isnt the only member of the Pirates team to allude to Johnnys departure. In October, former Pirates screenwriter Stuart Beattie told the Mail Online that Johnny had a great run, adding that the actor made that character his own and its become the character hes most famous for now.

Stuart said: And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think its been great for him, its been great for us, so Im just very, very happy about it. I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. Its the only character hes played five times, its the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, its what hell be remembered for.

Even Johnny was surprised that hes lasted this long in the role. In a recent interview with GQ, the actor admitted that producers hated the exaggerated way he portrayed Jack – but eventually grew to love it like the millions whove supported the franchise for the past decade.

A sad time for Pirates fans but also an exciting time to see where Disney take the franchise next.
