Race-by-race guide and tips for Scone on Monday

Track Good 4, with the rail out 3m, so should play fair and even.

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (900m):

Tamworth mare 2. Anaita improved big time into her second career run at Moree when just edged out and gets leading rider aboard here.

Dangers: Wyong-trained 5. Hard Reality was sent back to the trials where he performed nicely after failing on debut at Newcastle. Will be better served here; while the well fancied Newcastle filly 8. Mary Magpie was just nailed last start at Kempsey and is on the brink of breaking through. Has the early speed to overcome a wide gate.

How to play it: Anaita to win and quinella 2 and 8.

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

Open affair, with several on debut for strong stables, but one resuming gets the nod. Local mare and beautifully-bred 8. Artefiori is still a maiden after five starts but was very competitive against stronger earlier in the year, and stable renowned for getting them ready fresh.

Dangers: Loved the trials of 5. Defeat winning easily at home, and then sitting three wide on a good speed, yet still cruised through the line under a grip. While he failed on debut back in May in Soft ground, he was very well backed that day, and looks much stronger this time around. Liked the trial of 9. Celebrita's Choice at Wyong. Sat three wide, no cover, and kept finding the line under a nice hold and looks ready to go; while Newcastle filly 10. Stella Sea Sun made up plenty of ground in that same trial as Defeat. Will drift back from a wide gate, but if the speed's on, look for her finishing off late. Local filly 14. Smoodge finished nicely on debut at Muswellbrook after a string of trials at Rosehill through the middle of the year.

How to play it: Artefiori to win and box exacta 5-8-9.

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

Another open battle, but equal topweight 1. Brixton Town looks primed third-up after two strong closing efforts at Tamworth and this track. Gets a nice trailing gate back in the field and can launch over the top.

Dangers: Newcastle filly 13. Mimic trialled nicely before hitting the line from well back on debut, and should improve again from a cosy draw and leading rider aboard. Gulgong visitor 4. Thunderzone has been placed four times from seven starts and keeps finding the line under big weights so the big track and rider's 2kg claim are plusses. Newcastle colt 7. Sunny Afternoon was run over late by a promising one last start at Kempsey, and third-up will again give a tonne of cheek; while local filly 10. All Charges will be prominent on debut after finishing close up in a recent Muswellbrook trial.

How to play it: Brixton Town to win and quinella 1 and 13.

Race 4 BM 66 HCP (1100m):

Very keen on local mare 4. Don't Doubt Her third-up on a track that suits her pattern. Should have nearly won two starts back, before again roaring home at big odds in a strong Hawkesbury BM 64. Would have preferred a more experienced rider, but does gets 3kg off, and she looks beautifully placed.

Dangers: The form of Wyong-trained 3. Table Two doesn't look flash, but he's been finding the line in stronger grades and gets the inside draw; while big watch on ex-Victorian 2. Charlie Garcon who powered home to win a weaker race at Bendigo last start before transferring to Cessnock. Local 3YO colt 10. Mick The Hat is still eligible for CL1 and naturally gets a little weight advantage. Won his maiden here three starts back.

How to play it: Don't Doubt Her to win.

Race 5 BM 58 HCP (1600m):

Competitive race, but Wyong-trained 2. Shangato peaks third-up from the fence draw. Flew home under a big weight at Tamworth two runs back and the winner has since saluted again, before a strong closing effort when solid in the market this track. Stalks the speed all the way.

Dangers: Muswellbrook-trained 7. Voyages can go on with it after winning his maiden in good style from off the speed at Muswellbrook. Local 5. Net Effect improved big last start hitting the line hard behind the promising I Am Awesome at Muswellbrook, and spacious track will allow him to be ridden nice and quiet from a wide barrier and up in weight. Newcastle mare 10. Winter Sonata hasn't won since May, but has been around the money in similar grade and gets a lovely run from the gate.

How to play it: Shangato each-way and box trifecta 2-5-7-10.

Race 6 CL3 HCP (1100m):

Lightly-raced 6. Ibini was $21.00 into $9.00 winning his second race resuming for strong local stable, running his last 600m in good time. Pattern suggests he can repeat the dose stepping up in class from an ideal draw.

Dangers: Newcastle mare 3. Tycoon Street raced against stronger earlier in the year and has been given two forward trials to prepare; while Wyong-trained 8. Rugenbrau is already a first-up winner, and trialled nicely for his first run in 13 weeks.

How to play it: Ibini to win and quinella 3 and 6.

Race 7 CL1 HCP (1400m):

Have a nice wrap on Tamworth-trained 3. Moobi who has hit the line nicely two runs back from a spell this grade. Should peak here on a track that suits, and from a good draw with senior rider aboard.

Dangers: Well-bred 3YO local 1. Magpie is the clear threat stepping up in grade and trip off a dominant maiden win at Port Macquarie; while Mudgee mare 6. Invincible Type didn't do much resuming at Dubbo, but improves significantly second-up over this longer journey.

How to play it: Moobi each-way and box exacta 1-3-6.
