Captain Avard said its important for anyone involved in emergency situations to talk about their experiences.
“We have specialists from Dubbo like Peter Ryan, hes a fully trained counsellor that comes out, hes part of a special team thats been designed to assist firefighters with stressful situations and incidents,” Captain Avard said.
“It can be stressful, I know that myself from personal incidents Ive been to, especially when you know the people involved it makes it a bit harder at times.”
“Im a big believer myself in talking about it when we get back to the station or talking about it on scene. So we discuss issues, and I try and prepare people for things you might see at incidents like a crime scene.”
“I find the team I have in 406 Nyngan are very strong and we all stick together which is really good,” Captain Avard said.
The team at Nyngan 406 have already started their campaign to raise money for Movember.
“Anyone who wants to make a donation can contact myself and I can put you in touch with the boys,” Captain Avard said.
