Joe Russo confirms running time of Avengers 4 as he gives update on editing process

We are counting down the days to the release of Avengers 4 – which, by the way, is handily done for us by the good folks at Marvel and their new clock.
And now we know that when the time comes to fork out for a cinema ticket and a large popcorn, well be getting our moneys worth.
Co-director Joe Russo has confirmed that the as yet untitled Avengers movie currently stands at three hours long – although this could change throughout the editing process.
Joe, who directs the franchise with brother Anthony, was speaking on Instagram live to promote his new bar Duello when he revealed how Avengers 4 is, as it stands, the longest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He said: The running time on Avengers 4 is currently sitting right at three hours. Well see if that holds.

However, Russo added that they still have a long way to go on finishing up the movie.
He told fans: Were about halfway through the editing process. Were really just scratching the surface on our VFX shots. There are more than 3,000 VFX shots in the movie; those require a lot of time and thought and energy and effort, and were very early in the phase of getting VFX done.
Weve just started work with Alan Silvestri on the score, and were still editing picture at this point.
Joe didnt give any clues to the plot or title, but teased: Will the stakes be higher in Avengers 4? Absolutely. 100 percent.
More: Avengers
The highest of any of the films to date, without question.
Russo had previously suggested that Avengers 4 could require you bringing a cushion and a trolley of snacks to the cinema, telling Collider earlier this year: Ill say it could easily be a three hour film, but I think that, you know, were very hard on the material. We like it to play at a certain pace. Uh…I…you know, Im sure that well squeeze it.
Famous last words.
Infinity War clocked in at 149 minutes long, ending with the Thanos snap that wiped out half of the universe.
