Janelle Monáe Joins Gloria Steinem Biopic The Glorias: A Life On The Road

EXCLUSIVE: Recording artist and actress Janelle Monáe has come aboard The Glorias: A Life On The Road, the Gloria Steinem biopic that has Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander playing the feminist and social-political activist at various stages. Julie Taymor is directing the film which is based on Steinems memoir.

This seems like a befitting project for Monáe who, like Steinem, is an outspoken human rights advocate. Earlier this year, the multiple Grammy award nominee called for a Times Up in the music industry to end discrimination, inequality, harassment, and the abuse of power.

The Glorias will follow Steinems journey to become a crusader for equal rights and her groundbreaking work as a journalist and campaigner.

Alex Saks is producing the pic, via Fifty-Four Pictures, with Taymor and Lynn Hendee. Steinem and Amy Richards are exec producers as filming is slated to start January in Savannah, Georgia.

Monáe, who broke onto the acting scene with her standout performances in the 2016 films Moonlight and Hidden Figures, will next appear in the Robert Zemeckis-helmed Welcome to Marwen from Dreamworks/Universal Pictures. Her company, Wondaland Pictures, also recently set a first-look film production deal at Universal.

In addition, Monáes forthcoming slate includes STXs animated release UglyDolls, Disneys live-action Lady and the Tramp remake, and the Harriet Tubman pic from Focus Features.

Shes repped by Wondaland Management, WME, and Ziffren Brittenham.
