Fantastic Beasts Jude Law clarifies Grindelwald continuity error – but we still want McGonagall answers
While were still here waiting patiently for any clarification on why Minerva McGonagall is going to be in The Crimes of Grindelwald, Jude Law has at least answered one of our other burning questions about the next Fantastic Beasts.
You see, the whole time weve been under the impression Germott Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, was pronounced phonetically.
That was until Jude, who plays Albus Dumbledore, rocks up on the scene at the end of the trailer for the next instalment and calls old mate Grindelvald.
That made us all go, hang on, WTF, THATS how you pronounce it?
Well, not so.
And now the actor has opened up about why he pronounces the wizards name like that and turns out its totally Jude choice. Accidentally.
I dived straight in calling him “Grindlevald”, assuming that because I have this very good friendship with him that I got it right, he explained on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week.

But Eddie Redmayne pointed out halfway through the film, “I dont call him that. I call him Grindelwald.” But it was too late.
Oh dear.
He then added: I think its because Albus knows him well and at some point, Gellert said, “Can you please call me Grindelvald”.
Im sticking with that.
Fair call!
We really cant take any other continuity issues here though, as the canon appeared to be messed with mightily this week when we call cottoned onto the fact Professor McGonagall is going to be in this flick, based in 1927.
Even though Harry Potter pundits believed she was born in 1935.

It was all fans needed to head to social media and go straight to author JK Rowling to plea in desperation for the proper DOB of the head of Gryffindor. Or at least an answer as to why the peeps are messing with the universe.
Until then, guess were going to have to make do with Judes insight into his own character.
