Silver Chain sensory garden officially opened | Photos
Members of the community joined supporters of Silver Chain Margaret River at the groups social centre last week to celebrate the unveiling of a new sensory garden at the facility.
Created with the help of a number of local businesses who were in attendance at the launch party, the garden provides interactive elements alongside colourful plants and flowers.
Co-ordinator Noelene Fuller said the clients of the centre had given the garden final touches ready for the opening day.
“Sensory gardens are increasingly being identified as an important support tool in dementia care.
“The sight, smell and touch of plants prompts memories and reduces agitation, and the inclusion of interactive elements like the xylophone and bus stop will help keep clients engaged.
“Id like to thank all of the locals, the local suppliers and businesses and everyone who has contributed to the creation of the garden.”
Joining in the celebrations were members of the local Bunnings team, who helped out with the garden as part of their annual community project.
Cutting the ribbon to officially launch the garden was client Nancy Coston, who has extended her green thumbs to the new garden and said it was exciting to see the finished product.
“This centre is a wonderful place and a real hive of activity, there is something always happening and this garden is a fantastic new addition that will benefit many Silver Chain clients.”
