Bridget Jones has reread her old journal extracts in a new light.

Twenty-two years after diarising the unwanted sexual advances of male colleagues, the fictional London spinster has called #MeToo on a few familiar names.

In a new extract, as imagined by author Helen Field and published in this weeks Sunday Times Style magazine, Bridget suggests that Mr Fitzherbert (Tits Pervert) and Daniel Cleaver would lose their jobs if they did the same thing today.

Bridget muses: What did I put up with, in the days of these diaries, without even knowing I had the right not to put up with it? Talk about #MeToo.

Later, she adds: I just accepted that part and parcel of having a job was that my boss would stare freely at my breasts, not know my name, and ask me to put a tight dress on to make an idiotic speech.

Back in the 1996 novel Bridget Joness Diary, the characters romance with Daniel, played by Hugh Grant in the film adaptions, and the charming Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth, took centre stage.

Fans most recent taste of Bridget was in the 2017 film Bridget Jones Baby when we found her navigating Glastonbury, Ed Sheeran and spin classes.

In an even more modernised piece, this week, she re-examines her acceptance of her lecherous colleagues, and muses on why she didnt call herself a feminist.

The new work is featured in the upcoming book, Feminists Dont Wear Pink (and Other Lies), curated by director Richard Curtis daughter Scarlett Curtis, an ST Style columnist.

It contains the work of 52 women, writing on the subject of feminism, and has been previewed by The Times.

Earlier this year, Bridget actress Renee Zellweger teased a fourth film for the franchise when she said: I really hope there is. I do. I love her. Shes so much fun.

She told the Daily Record: I really like the place she is at in her life, but its Bridget and theres always going to be some drama.

Shes so perfectly imperfect. It was really special to see her so welcomed and loved after such a long time away because it can go either way. This could have been the one I was finally found out on.
