JK Rowling is answering more fan theories as fans turn detective after Fantastic Beasts trailer
The trailer for the next instalment of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, The Crimes of Grindelwald, hit the waves yesterday and its safe to say weve all gone a little wild for the whole thing.
Which has prompted many to look into the characters within the Harry Potter prequel to try and glean some message about what came to be in the original franchise, written by JK Rowling.
And because thats what we like to do, many punters have put forth their own theories on certain elements of the flick, which picks up straight where the first film left off.
Well see whether the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, escaped MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America) in his quest to gather loyal followers to rule.

However, its the sight of huge snake Nagini – that belonged to he who shall not be named (okay, its Voldemort, we know by now) Harry Potters nemesis in the original franchise. Also his final horcrux to be killed; ended by Neville Longbottom with Godric Gryffindors Sword.
The trailer for TCOG shows us a smidgen of Naginis origin story, that being she was once a witch. Which might not be so unexpected, seeing as the whole HP franchise is about witches and wizards.
Anyhoo, it prompted one fan to speculate Nagini must be an Animagus – and we already know one major of that ilk, being Peter Pettigrew (who was, of course, Wormtail).
However with great speculation comes great responsibility…for JK Rowling to set the record straight herself.
Remember guys, shes always watching.
She shot back on Twitter: Not an Animagus. A Maledictus. Big difference.
Oh, right *hastily makes note*.
For those not in the know, or need a little knowledge scrub up like us, an Animagi – think Professor McGonagall, who transforms into a cat at the most legend of times – can be both male or female and have control over such a morphing skill.
However, Maledictuses, such as Nagini, old mates snake, are only women with their animorphing being brought on by a curse.
JK clarified things further: Theyre different conditions. Maledictuses are always women, whereas werewolves can be either sex.

The Maledictus carries a blood curse from birth, which is passed down from mother to daughter.
Sad face.
And this, in itself, once confirmed by JK prompted a floodgate of theories from over-excited pundits.
Like that Nagini ended up in a zoo after many thought that was the snake that escaped in the first tale, The Philosophers Stone…

The more you know. And if you dont know, just ask JK.
Led by Eddie Redmayne as Newt, Grindelwald will set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) therefore enlists his former student Newt to help him defeat Grindelwald, but both are unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.
