Male driver charged after erratic pursuit

Nyngan Police have arrested and charged a 25-year-old male after a police pursuit earlier this month.
At about 12.30am on August 12, police witnessed a commodore driving along Cobar Street at high speed.
As police attempted to pursue the vehicle, the driver sped off road in an erratic manner toward the levee back near the Golf Course.
Following investigations police located the vehicle a few days later in Dandaloo Street, where they were also able to identify the driver.
The driver was arrested at his home and charged with driving whilst disqualified and engaging in a police pursuit.
He was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court the following day.
The driver was again refused bail before the court and remanded in custody. He is scheduled to next appear before Dubbo Local Court on October 10.
Nyngan Police Sergeant Tony Wood said the incident is a strong reminder that matters dont end if you make an escape.
“We made a decision on public safety to end the pursuit and look at other avenues,” Sergeant Wood said.
“The number plate was not an accurate number plate, it was taken off another vehicle.
“However again police investigations were able to identify the car involved, the owner of the car and driver of the car.
“This is a person who was already disqualified from driving. His driving on the night in question puts the community at risk,” Sergeant Wood said.
“Public safety and road safety is one of our core priorities to address, so if hes not prepared to abide by the terms of his disqualification period then thats what prison is for,” he said.
