Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk have been breaking our hearts on Emmerdale lately as they struggle to deal with the harrowing reality that their unborn baby will not survive after birth. As they try to confront the horrific situation, the worst of it still lies ahead as they face the labour and the inevitable tragic aftermath.

It has been confirmed that their unborn daughter – who they have been calling Margarita – will definitely not survive and after Chas has decided to go ahead with the organ donation, it has become clear that she has started to accept this in her mind instead of hoping for a miracle.

However, that will do nothing to take the pain out of it when the time comes to give birth and then say a devastating goodbye.

Lucy Pargeter recently revealed to Metro.co.uk that the scenes wont be what fans are necessarily expecting but added that the aftermath could well be even more agonising than anything we have seen so far.

She said: I really hope Paddy and Chas stay together but hopefully they are going to continue to show two people going through the same experience but who have different ways of getting through it. So not only have we got the next bit of storyline to do, weve also got the aftermath of what happens which Im sure is going to be equally difficult.

It has certainly impacted Lucy playing the scenes, as it has for the viewers at home watching them, and she added that it was inevitable that she would take some of it home with her. She explained: Its been harrowing. In some circumstances when youre playing a storyline you dont have to necessarily go to the emotional place, there are other things you can use, tear sticks, wobble your lip. You can pretend to cry, youre pretending to do the emotion. Whereas for the first time in a long time Ive gone to places that I dont want to normally go to.

Reading the scripts has been hard, Ive been crying a lot at home while reading the scripts. When we talk about the dialogue and what were actually saying theres some absolutely beautiful lines written. So it has been really difficult, its been harrowing and hard, but its been enjoyable to play their journey as a partnership and a couple.

Viewers should certainly be prepared for more emotion still to come as the next stages of the painful but beautifully portrayed storyline play out.
